Justice at your fingertips: Lao Ministry of Justice launches legal aid website

The Lao Ministry of Justice officially launched a legal aid website on 17 September 2026, creating a new digital gateway that brings legal information and assistance closer to people across the country. The platform, developed with support from the Rule of law, access to justice and good governance (ROLAG) programme, provides practical information on legal aid, how to seek assistance and how to connect with legal aid offices. It is particularly important for people who may face barriers to justice, including poor and vulnerable communities, women and children affected by violence, persons with disabilities, victims of trafficking and other marginalised groups.

During the launch, H.E. Sisuda SOPHAVANDY, Vice Minister of Justice, underscored the importance of promoting the website nationwide so that more people can access legal information and available services.

Thomas LAMMAR, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Lao PDR, stated :

More than a website, the platform represents a practical bridge between people and justice institutions. By making essential information easier to find, it empowers people to better understand their rights, identify available support and know where to turn when legal assistance is needed.

Initial support for the platform was provided through collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme and other development partners, while its continued development and sustainability are being supported through the partnership between the Ministry of Justice and the ROLAG programme.

The milestone carries a simple but powerful message : justice begins with knowing your rights and becomes meaningful when help is within reach.

The ROLAG programme is financed by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and jointly implemented by the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Ministry of Justice, LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency, ILSTA and the University of Luxembourg.
